Adaptive Plans
Object statistics don’t always provide all the information the query optimizer needs to find an optimal execution plan. To improve this situation, the query optimizer, during the parse phase, can take advantage of dynamic sampling to get additional insights into the data to be processed. In addition, as of version 12.1, the query optimizer is able to postpone some decisions until the execution phase. The idea is to leverage information that can be collected while executing part of an execution plan to determine how another part should be carried out. The aim of this presentation is to explain and demonstrate when and how the query optimizer takes advantage of this technique.

Oracle Database 12c – Parallel Execution New Features
Oracle Database 12c introduces a number of new features in the parallel execution area. Specifically, there are changes in the configuration, a new features called Performance Feedback, new data distribution methods, and new optimizations related to serial operations, correlated filters and scalar expressions.
The aim of this presentation is to review the new features from a practical point of view as well as to point out challenges related to them. In other words, to let you know what you can expect from parallel execution when you upgrade to Oracle Database 12c.

Ludovico Caldara

Get the most out of Oracle Data Guard
If you use Oracle Data Guard feature just for data protection, you are using less than half of its potential. You already pay for it, so why not getting the most out of it? In this session I will show how you can use Oracle Data Guard capabilities for common tasks such as database cloning, database migration and reporting, with the help of other features included in Oracle Database Enterprise Edition.

Paolo Castagna

Un’introduzione a Kafka Streams e KSQL… and why they matter!

GDPR & You: The Nightmare of BA
GDPR: 4 letters, an acronym being a nightmare for many companies. A fixed deadline, huge fine announced by the new regulation. For the first time companies are really required to manage their data workflows, security processes and processing. An enterprise analytical and reporting platform is clearly a key component for a GDPR compliance audit. How can you keep OBIEE under control? How can you make sure which data is used where and by who? This session will provide you with these answers.

Natale Paonita

Oracle Analytics & EPM Sources: Best Friends Forever

EPM and BI: born to be best friends but often separated by a wall in reality. Time to bridge the gap: do you have an EPM source? Oracle Analytics is the perfect tool to report and analyse your data. In this session you will see practically how to load and use the native HFM, Planning and Essbase data sources making OAC/OBIEE the unique enterprise-wide analytics and reporting platform your dreamed about.

Real World DBA Best Practices in the Cloud
Learn some of the tips and techniques of successfully managing a database infrastructure in the real
world from someone who has been a DBA for 22 years and counting. Each recommendation is explained
with justification and how it works. Some examples – install patches in a different Oracle Home, enable
simple auditing, RMAN validate and restore preview, prefer pfile over spfile and many others. This
presentation was delivered at Collaborate conference earlier to a packed room. This session have been updated since
then.
1. Develop an arsenal of tools for use in any database infrastructure
2. Debunk some of the widely accepted theories on best practices
3. Learn the tips and techniques for managing the database from a practical context

Diagnosing Latch Contentions in Oracle Cloud Databases
Often contentions for latches cripple systems to a halt, even to the point a DBA can’t even login to check
the source of the issue and take corrective action. In those cases you may have no choice but to recycle
the database, only to see the recurrence of that same issue, and a lot of upset customers who lost their
data. In this session you will see how to troubleshoot latch contention issues with proper tools, even
when the database is not accessible to SQL, using oradebug, prelim option and using hang analyzer trace
files. You will learn a specific set of steps to follow to identify the root of the issue and resolve it instead
of recycling the database. All will be explained with live demos.
1. Learn why latch contentions occur
2. Learn how to use oradebug and hang analyzer
3. Learn how to identify cache buffer chain latches

Brendan Tierney

Machine Learning in Oracle
Why does the Data Scientist get all the fun of using machine learning? What about the Oracle Developer? They can do machine learning too, right? This presentation will look at what the Oracle Developer needs to know to create, test, deploy and integrate the machine learning predictive models in the Oracle Database and across their applications. Examples will be given of the typical tasks and how they can perform these using the Oracle Data Miner, SQL, PL/SQL Deploying predictive models is easy. It’s just SQL after all. Machine learning can be done on-premises or in the Oracle Cloud where you can utilize the scalability of the cloud. The presentation will conclude with a quick look at the new Oracle Machine Learning product that is part of Oracle Data Warehouse Cloud Service.

Running R in the Oracle Database
R is a very powerful programming language that allows use to perform all sorts of statistical and advanced analytics on your data. But can we use R in the Database? How can we do this? Can we combine the power of R and the in-database Data Mining feature? This presentation will look at each of these questions and will give a live demonstrations to illustrate the answers. At the end of the presentation you will know how to use R on your data, how to integrate R with your Data Mining processes, how to embed R in your database (and even in the Cloud) and how to use the embedded R to perform advanced analytics on your data.

Francesco Tisiot

OBIEE: Going Down the Rabbit Hole
This session builds on experience gained over many years with multiple clients and systems. OBIEE 12c, the latest generation of Oracle’s analytics and reporting tool, provides the “Enterprise Edition” configuration which is sometimes misunderstood with Enterprise Ready. A default OBIEE installation alone however doesn’t ensure a fast, secure, reliable and successful BI process. Non-standard configurations like external identity provider, SSL or memory allocation have an impact on content access approval chains, security and performances that sometimes are initially overlooked and difficult to change/implement at a later time. This presentation will enable attendees to learn what implications the usage of OBIEE’s default non-optimal functionalities have, how to diagnose and solve them. The diagnostic part is the central core of the presentation: most of the times this is limited to googling the error code and wrongly taking as granted whatever the first result is showing. The session will demonstrate how a basic usage of appropriate diagnostic tools can help understanding OBIEE’s detailed functionality and solve or give an exact explanation to all the problems or strange behaviours happening in the system.

Gerald Venzl

What’s new in Oracle 18c
Oracle Database recently switched to a new annual release model, and Oracle Database 18c will be the first release in this new model. This session is a unique opportunity to get ahead of the curve and learn what’s new in Oracle Database 18c directly from the Oracle Database development team.

Dockerizing Oracle DB
You are new to Docker or want to learn more about it? Then this session is right for you! You will learn how to install Docker, create an Oracle image and run Oracle DBs inside a container.

Hans Viehmann

Using Deep Learning and Graph Analysis against Cyberattacks
If an IT network is modelled as an abstract graph with network devices represented as nodes in the graph, and connections between the components represented as edges, you can already derive interesting information from the resulting topological structure. If in addition the network traffic on this graph is captured, machine learning algorithms can be used to identify anomalous behaviour caused by network intruders. In this paper we’ll look at the fundamentals of graph analytics and how these technologies can be used to detect anomalies in general. We will show how graph analysis can be combined with machine learning using the integration between Oracle Big Data Spatial and Graph and R through the OAAgraph package. And finally, we will describe a project in which network data was analysed by means of a deep learning engine to detect suspicious network activity.
